Symantec Certificates

Domain validated certificates are used to validate your domain name (not your organization or business name).
These certificates are faster to issue but not recommended for professionnal use and provide less assurance to your users.

Organization validated certificates are issued after the certificate authority verifies your ownership of the domain name and business registration information (you will be asked to provide a few documents).
These certificates can take a few days to be issued because it requires a manual validation of your business. They provide higher assurance to your customers.

Normal certificates that validates the root domain and the www subdomain
Example :
- mydomain.com
- www.mydomain.com

Multi-domain certificates save you time and money by securing multiple domains and subdomains (called SAN) with a single SSL certificate.
Example :
- mydomain.com
- login.mydomain.com
- myseconddomain.com
- mail.myseconddomain.com
- ...

Wildcard certificates allow you to secure a root domain and an unlimited number of it's subdomains.
Example :
- mydomain.com
- www.mydomain.com
- admin.mydomain.com
- mail.mydomain.com
- ...
